Share Certificate Dematerialisation coming in January 2023

It sounds like another complex EU Directive, but simply means that no new share certificates for listed companies across the EU & UK will be issued after January 2023, and by 2025 any existing share certificates must be held in electronic format. This can be done by lodging your shares into your own stockbroker nominee account or an asset service provider account and may incur service charges. Dematerialisation will harmonise settlement across the EU and UK and is the benchmark for efficiency in global capital markets. It will also greatly benefit the consumer /individual shareholder in terms of efficient and timely payment of dividends, processing of corporate actions (corporate mergers/ acquisitions, rights issues etc.) and estate planning / probate.

Claris Advisors can assist you with this financial planning and we have arrangements and agencies in place with several stockbrokers and nominee providers.
